Product Description
Cryopreservation medium serves as the liquid environment for cells during freezing, providing nutrients and protection, lowering the freezing point, and enhancing the cell membrane’s permeability to water. This allows cellular water to exit before freezing, preventing or reducing ice crystal damage to cells, and temporarily suspending growth, preserving cellular characteristics for revival when needed. Traditional cryopreservation media, which involve a mix of culture medium, serum, and DMSO, are limited in application due to the complexity and batch variability of the serum component and require time-consuming programmed cooling.
Serum-Free Cryopreservation Medium (Without Phenol Red) has a clear chemical composition, containing sugars, amino acids, and various protectants like DMSO, significantly reducing ice crystal damage during cryopreservation and effectively improving cell revival rates and viability. It does not contain serum, reducing external factors and contamination sources, making it safer and more stable; it also eliminates the tedious and time-consuming programmed cooling process, allowing cells to be directly suspended and stored at -80°C or transferred to liquid nitrogen the next day.
Serum-Free Cryopreservation Medium is efficient, safe, stable, and convenient, offering significant advantages over traditional cryopreservation media, and is recommended for routine cryopreservation of mammalian cells (including tumor or transformed cell lines, primary cells, stem cells, immune cells, etc.), particularly suitable for serum-free cultured cells. As this product does not contain phenol red, it is also applicable for hormone-related experimental cell cryopreservation. Generally, 1 ml of cryopreservation medium is used per vial of cells, allowing approximately 100 vials of cells to be preserved with this product.
Performance
1. Cell cryopreservation viability
MSCs and several other commonly used cell lines were frozen with MeilunBio and international X brand serum-free cryopreservation medium respectively, and thawed after one week and one month of freezing at -80℃, respectively, and the thawed cells were counted for viable cells.
The cell viability was higher in the MeilunBio serum-free cryopreservation medium (Figures 1&2).

2. Cell growth status after resuscitation
MSCs and several other commonly used cell lines were frozen with MeilunBio and international X brand serum-free cryopreservation medium respectively. After thawing, the cells were cultured for 24 h. The growth of the adherent cells was observed by microscope, and the suspended cells were counted for viable cells. The cell status of the MeilunBio group was comparable or even better than the control (Figures 3&4&5&6).
